Comments:This is part of a group of objects from the wreck of a Chinese ship, loaded with porcelain in European taste, which was discovered in waters off the southern tip of Vietnam, 90 nautical miles south of Ca Mau. It was first reported in May 1998. Salvage was coordinated between a commercial company and the Vietnamese government who sanctioned the sale in Amsterdam. Three museums in Vietnam made a selection from the wreck, and 76,000 of the remaining 130,000 pieces were sold at Sotheby’s Amsterdam, the remainder staying in public ownership in Vietnam. Most of the cargo was made in Jingdezhen in Jiangxi, Dehua in Fujian and Guangzhou in Guangdong Province.
