Description:
Wall sherd of a ceramic vessel with appliqué decoration. The outside of the sherd is decorated with parallel running horizontal lines and with an appliqué showing the head and upper body of a gandharva. Gandharvas are male nature spirits said to have superb musical skills. The one depicted here holds a garland and wears a tiara, large round earrings, bracelets and a necklace. The object was covered with a white slip before being fired.
