Comments:Label: ‘Circular vessel of grey pottery for fighting crickets.’ Registration slip: ‘Presented by Dr. W.G.K. Barnes, R.N. 3rd March 1896. China. Circular vessel of grey pottery with flat circular lid and flat bottom. In it is a small box of the same pottery one side of which is convex so as to follow the side of the larger box: it has an arched opening at each end and a detachable lid with a button-like knob on the top. On the lid of the large box is engraved or stamped a female figure with a stag walking near a tree, while beneath it is another solitary human figure. The lid of the smaller box is also ornamented. For fighting crickets: seized at Woo-hoo.’See also: As1896,0319.3.
