Comments:Joël Grondin: these are not squirrels, but treeshrews (Tupaia glis) or northern treeshrew (Tupaia belangeri chinensis). The shape of the ears (round, human shape) and the form of the tails (brushed) is closer to the characteristics of a treeshrew than of a Chinese squirrel (ears are pointing up out of the head, and tail is thiner/longer). About the frequent confusion between these animals, see “Cinq bonheurs, message cachés des décors chinois”, Estelle Niklès van Osselt, Fondation Baur, ISBN 2-88031-019-9, page 68.
