Porcelain vase in form of double gourd. Underglaze blue with wide bands of scrolling lotus flowers and leaves. Individual flower heads around waist and cloud motifs at the shoulder. Inscription in band just below the lip.

Potters decorated many imperial porcelains with emblems of longevity or other auspicious motifs. Although they created some new shapes, they also repeated decorative motifs and forms invented in the early fifteenth century such as this gourd shaped vase.
