Description:
Porcelain double gourd vase with rectangular lower section, narrow waist, and pear shaped upper section. There are pomegranate sprays in underglaze blue and red, green, aubergine and yellow overglaze enamels on the lower section, and pomegranate sprays, butterflies and clouds on the upper section.

Comments:Published PDF date : Ming 16th century Room 95 label text:PDF 727Gourd-shaped vasePotters rarely used copper-red at Jingdezhen in the sixteenth century but here they have used it to depict the pomegranate fruits with underglaze blue leaves and then polychrome enamels were added. Although this large gourd-shaped vase is unmarked it is likely to have been made in the late sixteenth century.
