Description:
This pair of finely potted porcelain vases have long necks with flared mouth rims and stand on low foot rings. Each are decorated in a subdued palette of overglazed enamels over a glossy glaze with a wild goose and gander beneath bending rushes and both are inscribed with the same poem in black enamel. The oval seals in iron red at the beginning and end of the poem are not clear. The bases carry an iron-red kaishu Hongxian reign mark and the English word CHINA in gold letters. Yuan Shikai ordered these porcelains to be made at Jingdezhen in the gu yue xuan style of the finest Qing dynasty ceramics.
