Period:Ming dynasty Production date:1522-1566 (circa)
Materials:porcelain
Technique:celadon-glazed, incised,
Dimensions:Diameter: 8.70 inches Height: 36 centimetres
Description:
Vase with incised lotus scroll, cut-down neck and metal mount. This blue-green-glazed vase has an ovoid body, and a cut-down neck which would have trumpeted out. Its base is glazed in the centre only and is gritty in that; the remainder of the base is fired in the biscuit but has been covered with red lacquer which is now flaking off; the foot ring is unglazed. Beneath the celadon glaze this vase is incised with lotus scrolls and with overlapping flame lappets around the foot.

Comments:Harrison-Hall 2001:The quality of incised design and potting suggest that this vase was made fairly late on in the Longquan kilns history, probably in the Jiajing period. Fifteenth-century incised designs are superior in quality.
