Guan stoneware vase of ancient bronze cong form with a square body, and short cylindrical neck and foot. The vase has thick, translucent grey-green glaze with a wide crackle stained grey and light brown in some areas.

Scholars published manuals illustrating these historical jades and bronzes. Contemporary Song craftsmen reproduced their shapes in other materials in response to commissions from wealthy clients. The new users adapted the functions of the antique objects. Archaeologists have excavated archaistic cong 琮 made in a variety of materials in several Southern Song dynasty hoards.
