Porcelain reticulated vase with tube-like straight neck, small mouth, flattened shoulders and a narrow flat base, on a ceramic stand. There is an openwork design of rocks and waves, and applied plaintain, lotus, chysanthemum and peony in relief , with Fahua style green, aubergine and blue on-biscuit enamel.

It refers to a decorative palette and style of ornament rather than to a kiln site. Rather like cloisonné decorated objects with boundaries of metal wires, fahua wares are decorated with designs generally outlined with trailed clay paste lines but sometimes with incised lines. These designs are filled in with bright overglaze colours. Chemically fahua glazes are of an alkaline type more commonly used in Middle Eastern ceramics. Two types were made: low-fired fahua stonewares in Northern China and high-fired fahua porcelains in Southern China.
