Description:
Hexagonal porcelain vase with underglaze blue decoration. Modelled after a bronze altar vessel, this small hexagonal vase has semi-circular handles ribbed at the top, a faceted pear-shaped body and a high foot. A band of lotus flowers and foliage reserved in white on a blue ground covers the body. Plantain leaves, flowers and ornament decorate the neck and the foot is painted with feather motifs. The base is marked with four characters which read ‘Yong bao chang chun’ [Eternally preserve lasting spring] – a wish for youth never to fade.

Comments:Harrison-Hall 2001:The original bronze vessel on which the present piece is based would probably have had handles topped with mythical creatures.
