Comments:Harrison-Hall and Krahl 1994:Similar tureens were made in form of cocks, ox and boars’ heads, carp and other figurative shapes, for different types of food. They were used in combination with dinner services such as shown in the following, and some were painted with coats of arms. Such tureens originate in German ceramics and were made at Meissen and Hochst, but also in other manufactories. A similar goose in the Mottahedeh collection is illustrated by Howard and Ayers (1978, vol. II, pl. 614), where its Western prototypes are discussed (pp. 590 – 92).
