Description:
Tray (caddy). The arms copied from the bookplate Franks 9235, are intended for Dugdale: “Argent a cross moline gules in the first quarter a torteau”; crest, “A griffin’s head and wings endorsed or”; inscribed with a motto. These are intended for the arms of Dugdale of Clitheroe in Lancashire granted in 1560. John Dugdale, Mowbray herald Extraordinary in the reigns of George I and George II, for whom this service was probably made, died leaving his estates to Richard Geast, the son of his sister Jane, who later changed his name to Dugdale. Made of enamelled porcelain, Jingdezhen, Jiangxi province.
