Comments:The coat of Franklin is recorded as Argent on a bend azure three dolphins of the field for Franklin of Moore, Hertfordshire, and Middlesex, but as there is evidence that this service was made for the marriage of a Mr. Hart to a Miss Franklin it must be assumed that the Chinese artist mistook dolphins for martlets and this would account for the way the ‘martlets’ heads are turned over towards the sinister (like a dolphin’s looped tail).Howard 1974, p. 480. For a cup and saucer from the same service.
