Comments:Registration slip: ‘Presented by Dr. W.G.K. Barnes, R.N. 3rd March 1896. China. Diminutive toy drum with a [‘vertical’ crossed out] handle of pale wood of circular section. The membranes are white with simple floral designs in red and green: the sides of the drum are painted bright red. From each side depends a loop of pink thread having at the end a small green glass bead. The sound is produced by twirling the handle between the fingers so that the glass beads strike the membrane. Made at Yau-ma-ti near Kowloon.’
