Comments:Published PDF date : Ming Yongle 1403-1424 Room 95 label text:PDF 703Tile with dragons chasing flaming pearlThe trapezoidal shape of this tile and a similar tile in the V&A Museum, London suggests they came from a circular floor of about 8.5m in diameter. This might have been a pagoda with an octagonal floor-plate (many pagodas are 9-12m in diameter at the base. Potters used this colour combination from the Yongle period onwards as evidenced by excavated material from Jingdezhen where this tile was made. Archaeologists excavated a sherd of a similar tile in Nanjing from the Nanjing Porcelain Pagoda (Da Bao’ensi) and this now in the Nanjing Yishu Xueyuan 南京艺术学院. Sherd of a similar tile was excavated in Nanjing from the Nanjing Porcelain Pagoda ( Da Bao’ensi) and is now in the Nanjing Yishu Xueyuan 南京艺术学院.
