Description:
Thang Kha. Samvara (yi-dam) in blue with yellow, blue, green and red heads, carrying the attributes in Tibetan form; with a red female wisdom partner with the chopper and the skull-cup; above are Dīpaṃkara, Śākyamuni and Maitreya in his Buddha form on the right; below, the Buddha of Long Life is flanked by the Green and White Tārās. Painting on cloth with silk border.

Comments:Zwalf 1985The form of Samvara in this painting has a female partner, unlike no. 152. He is blue with yellow, blue, green and red heads and his partner is red. The colours are significant and laid down in the texts. The god carries the same attributes as the bronze, though they are now more Tibetan in form, while his partner has the chopper and presumably the skull-cup. Above are Dīpaṃkara, Śākyamuni and Maitreya in his Buddha form on the right, and, below, the Buddha of Long Life is flanked by the Green and White Tārās.
