Description:
These are two similar fragments. Originally the fabric was of a deep purple colour which has since faded into a brownish shade. The silk damask on plain weave shows an all-over design of lozenge compartments, each of which encloses a rosette, which repeats 2.4 cm in the warp direction and 3.5 cm in the weft direction. There are traces of stitching on the piece L:S.420 and the piece clearly shows where it was originally folded. Weave structures: Warp: silk, untwisted, single, dark purple, 55 ends/cm; Weft: silk, untwisted, single, dark purple, 27 lats/cm. Weave structure: 3.1 irregular twill woven with 2-2 patterning weave on 1/1 plain weave foundation weave. Pattern repeat: 2.4cm in warp direction and 3.5cm in weft direction. 長方形綺織物，暗紫色，共有2塊，分別收藏在大英博物館和V&A博物館（LOAN：STEIN.420）。圖案爲菱格紋骨架中填入橢圓形花卉紋樣，經向循環2.4cm，緯向循環3.5cm。 組織結構： 經線：絲，無撚，單根排列，暗紫色，55根/cm；緯線：絲，無撚，單根排列，暗紫色，27根/cm；組織：1/1平紋作地，2-2並絲織法織出3/1不規則斜紋顯花。圖案循環：經向2.4cm，緯向3.5cm。
