Description:
These two square fragments of twill damask (one in the British Museum, the other in the V&A) are damask textiles woven with warps and wefts in different colours. They are in yellow and white silk, showing a conventional trailing foliate design. Patterns of scrolling leaves of this kind became popular in the Liao and Song dynasties, reaching a peak in the Jin (1115-1234) and Yuan dynasties (1279-1368). Weave structures: Warp: silk, S twisted, single, white, 45 ends/cm; Weft: silk, untwisted, single, yellow, 19 lats/cm. Weave structure: 1/5S twill for pattern on 5/1Z twill for foundation. 方形綾殘片，共有2塊，分別收藏在大英博物館和V&A博物館（LOAN:STEIN.638），是利用經緯線異色交織後形成的單層色織物，表現爲黃色地上顯現白色卷草紋樣的效果。這類卷草紋也是在遼宋時開始流行，金元時達到極盛。 組織結構： 經線：絲，S撚，單根排列，白色，45根/cm；緯線：絲，無撚，單根排列，黃色，19根/cm；組織：5/1Z向斜紋組織地上以1/5S向斜紋組織顯花。
