Period:Ming dynasty Production date:1573-1620
Materials:porcelain
Technique:glazed, painted,
Subjects:dragon
Dimensions:Diameter: 19 centimetres Height: 3.20 centimetres
Description:
Circular porcelain stand with polychrome enamels. This thickly potted circular stand has inward-sloping sides with a flat rim, and an in-turned foot. Its ill-fitting glaze has crept away from the join of the foot to the sides, exposing a pinkish-beige body. Inside it is painted predominantly in red but also with green, yellow and black enamels. An octagonal cartouche with four radiating panels forms a cross containing dragons prancing on a ‘ruyi’ ground. Four characters, ‘Wanli nian zhi’ [Made in the Wanli reign], are arranged in an anticlockwise direction above these panels. Between and outside are three varieties of dense diapers. The iron-brown rim imitates metal work and the base is covered with a bluish glaze.
