Comments:Rawson 1987:Eight elegant bird-script characters on this spearhead proclaim this fine weapon as belonging to King Zhu Ju of Yue (r. 448-412). Yue state weapons famous for their elegance and keen edges were prized in many areas. Swords and spearheads have come from sites outside the Yue state in southeast China, particularly from Jin and Chu state tombs. Jin was often in alliance with Yue against Chu, and this probably lead to exchange of gifts. Chu no doubt seized such weapons in combat. Like the present spearhead many of the blade surfaces are decorated in geometric patterns executed in a technique as yet not understood. The spearhead combines gold-inlaid characters and a variegated surface with turquoise inlay around the socket.
