Description:
Gold-painted snuffer stand of European silver shape. The piece has a shaped square base, a stem of curved profile, and a shaped receptacle of rectangular section on top, whose base is pierced on either side of the stem, and fitted with a curly handle. It is painted in gold with flower designs.

Comments:Harrison-Hall and Krahl 1994:This unusually shaped piece is modelled after silver snuffer stands, made for a matching scissor-like candle snuffer which would be placed upright into the receptacle, its pointed tip protruding through the holes in its base. A related silver snuffer stand complete with its snuffer (as well as a conical candle extinguisher), made in London in 1703, is illustrated for comparison in Harrison-Hall and Krahl’s “Ancirnt Chinese Trade Ceramics from the British Museum”, 1994 (fig. 84 a).
