Comments:The Department of Coins and Medals holds Chinese insignia awarded to Frank Arthur Morgan during his time in China. There is also a cloak collected by Morgan in the Asian ethnographic collection (As1992,14.1) and it is likely that this shoe was collected on the same visit to Manchuria during the 1890s. The shoe was most likely used as a sign for a cobbler’s shop, and shows the diversity of shop advertisements in China in the 1890s. (A Komlosy, Apr 2010)
