Comments:Bats are considered auspicious by many Chinese peoples. In Chinese the word for bat (fu) is a homophone for happiness (fu). Butterfly (fudian) also has a homophone for happiness as one of the characters which make up its name in Chinese. The presence of bats and butterflies on this piece may indicate a degree of design borrowing between Han and Miao peoples in Guizhou.
