Description:
Covered porcelain box with underglaze blue decoration. This small round blue-and-white box stands on a low foot ring and has a flattop domed cover. It is delicately painted in a light pencilled style with a scholar asleep, in a garden, by his desk with books and a brush pot on the table, and with a picnic basket and jars of wine in the foreground. Around the outside are traditional vignettes of insects and flowering plants. An apocryphal six-character Chenghua reign mark in a double square marks the base.
