Comments:The inscription on the base of this seal is associated with Guanyu 关羽 (?- AD 220), a general in the Han dynasty. Legend has it that he was given the title of 汉寿亭侯 for his military achievments. However, the seal inscription was in the ‘nine fold seal script’ which only became popular during the Song dynasty. The size of the seal, larger than the usual Han dynasty ones, also indicates that this is unlikely to be the seal for Guanyu, but a later rework.
