Comments:This oblong Shoushan stone seal has a 2cm long slope chip on the top, possibly to adapt to the natural formation of the stone. The word ‘China’ is thinly scratched on the top, perhaps by the person who originally acquired the piece to help identify its origin. Two characters ‘De Xing’ (德兴) translated as Virtue and Prosperity were inscribed on the base in relief and in semi-cursive or xingshu (行书) script. Expressions such as De Xing 德兴 were often used in commercial shops and trading houses in China to show the motto of the business. Around the base of the seal stamp is a thin edge to serve as frame when stamped.
