Description:
Seal (?) made of horn. This is a small object with a handle on the top which has been pierced for suspension. The shape is that of a typical Chinese seal but the fact that the underside is completely flat and smooth suggests that it had not been personalized yet.

Comments:Stein (1928, 425) originally mentioned a “strong twisted woollen cord” which was drawn through the suspension hole. This cord is no longer associated with the object. Stein, Innermost Asia, p. 425: “T.XLIII.k.049. Horn seal (?); sq., with rounded back pierced for suspension. Roughly cut; no device. Strong twisted woollen cord through suspension hole. Face 3/4” sq., h. 1/2”.”
