Longquan stoneware table screen of imitation wooden form, with integral stand. The stand has a pale grey body and matt, semi-opaque crackled blue-green glaze. There is a standing man wearing an official hat carved on the stand. There is an inscription on the back. The base, face and left hand are unglazed.

The inscription on the other side is a Song dynasty poem by Si Maguang (AD 1019–1086) who was banished from court. In the poem he compares his loyalty to the emperor with the sunflowers that always turn to face the sun. The inscription is dated AD 1492 – fifth year of Hongzhi period in the spring. It has been translated ‘The sun shines again after rain in early summer, From my house the outline of the Southern Mountains are clearly discernable, After the rain the willow catkins are no more, Only the sunflowers turn towards the sun. Made by Wu Jianyuan.
