Comments:Rawson 1995:Knives belonging to the second category are much thinner, and often appear as though an original item had been roughly cut in half to make two. Many examples of this category are of a black stone, well represented in a large hoard found at Shaanxi Shenmu Shimao. A blad in the British Museum is typical of this category. The pieces from Shenmu probably range in date from the late neolithic to the Shang period (circa 2500 – 1200 BC). However, throughout that period the culture of the area may well have been at a neolithic stage. The other site where a number of such blades have been found is Guanghan Sanxingdui in Sichuan province.[The author entertains the possibility that the BM knife may have come from Shaanxi Shenmu Shimao in the caption.]
