Description:
‘Famille rose’ cup and saucer with a monogram. The oval medallion in the centre of the design contains entwined initials, perhaps ‘J C W’, enclosed in a Rococo surround, with two loving doves perched on top, two cherubs holding trumpets floating above with a coronet in the middle, and the date 1776 below. The rest is decorated with flower sprays and a toothed rim border.

Comments:Harrison-Hall and Krahl 1994:This set was clearly made for a marriage, and related pieces with initials under a crown flanked by angels, but differently painted, were already made earlier (compare Hervouet, 1986, nos. 14.43 and 14.44).
