Description:
Saucer. Coat of arms of Saunders, with branches in many counties, “Per chevron sable and argent three elephants’ heads erased counterchanged”. Only the family of Long Marston has the crest “sable”. This service is thought to have been made for Thomas Saunders who married Christian, daughter of Thomas Pitt of Bocombe in Cornwall, Governor of Fort St. George at Madras from 1750 to 1755. Made of enamelled porcelain.
