Description:
Porcelain cup and saucer. The cup has rounded sides and slightly everted rim and two shallow dragon-shaped loop handles. Saucer has short flared sides and flanged central recess to hold the cup. The cup and saucer have pale yellow enamel over a plain felspathic glaze. The cup has dragons pursuing pearls incised on the exterior. The saucer has an incised dragons among clouds, with waves at the centre and a narrow wave band at the rim, with similar motifs underneath. There is a mark in underglaze blue on each base.

This colour glaze was used to decorate court porcelain for some five hundred years of the imperial era in China from AD 1403 to AD 1911. Potters fired the cup and saucer twice, first at a porcelain temperature of around 1280 to1320 °C and then in a second, lower-temperature firing to vitrify the lead-fluxed, iron-pigmented glaze.
