Description:
Four Ru-type stoneware rectangular test piece samples. The pieces have a buff body, and each piece has slightly different glaze with varying levels of crackle. Glaze applied to one side of pieces, which have been pierced to aid removal from kiln.

Comments:Published PDF date : Northern Song early 12thC Room 95 label text:PDF A92a-d and A93a-dEight test pieces for the Ru glazeSir Percival David acquired these test pieces in 1938. They are said to have been collected from 林汝縣 Linruxian in Henan province. This is adjacent to寳豐縣Baofengxian where the Ru kilns were located. Similar test pieces have been excavated from the Ru kilns. They are drilled with a central hole so that they could be strung together rather like colour swatches which modern home decorators use. These test pieces illustrate varieties of glaze recipes or the result of different firing temperatures.
