Comments:Rawson 1992:The style of the characters, with their wedge-shaped strokes, is that found on many stelae in northern China dating from the Six Dynasties. The engraving of Buddhists texts on stone stelae began in the sixth century, when they were occasionally produced on a large scale. One of the most remarkable enterprises in the history of the Buddhist faith in China was the carving of the canon on stone slabs at Yunjusi, a monastery at Fangshan, near Beijing.
