Comments:Neolithic China, South-east China, c.4000BC. This jade is not so much a ring with a slit, as a thickened cushion of jade with a hole at the centre and a slit at one point in the circumference. The surface is very smoothly worked. It can be compared with a jue in the National Palace, Taipei. The thickness of the stone, together with its luxurious quality and soft polish, would have made this jue a compelling ornament. See Rawson 1995, p.121, cat.no.2.1. Neolithic, Chahai culture.
