Comments:This print commemorates an iconic event generally regarded as the birth of the Modern Woodcut Movement in China. In August 1931, Lu Xun organised a six-day workshop in woodcuts, taught by Uchiyama Kakichi and attended by 13 participants. Lu Xun was arguably the most influential cultural figure in China’s revolution. Shaking up the social and political systems, he stimulated generations of writers and artists and remains the inspiration for numerous black and white woodcuts. Gan Zhenglun was born in Beijing. He graduated from the National Academy of Fine Arts in Hangzhou in 1957 and taught there for many years.Published: Zhongguo Banhuajia Xinzuoxuan (Sichuan meishu chubanshe) No.11.
