Comments:Peaches symbolise long life and immortality. Cicadas also represent long life – these insects have life-cycles of up to 17 years. For this reason, jade cicadas were placed in the mouths of the deceased in ancient China. Today, cicadas are very common in China during summer, and their love song is much admired.Luk Yu-ping 17/08/17:Anne Farrer dates the Ding prints to 1735-50. Previously dated to 17th century, then changed to 1700-1750 in ‘The Printed Image in China’.
