Plate 5 from a set of sixteen plates; Chinese troops led by Zhaohui and his lieutenants, seen watching from a rise to left, attack Amursana’s supporters who, after their defeat at Khorgos, went to Mount Khurungui (North of the river Ili); enemy encampment seen to right attacked from all sides, men and animals fleeing, some men firing at the Chinese; a mist effect and possibly part of the river shown in the middle ground, mountains in the distance. 1767-1774 Etching and engraving

Comments:Plate 5 is often titled in modern literature: 庫隴癸之戰 The Battle of Khurungui, Le combat de Khurungui. None of the plates in the original edition was ever lettered with a title.This print is from an incomplete BM set (fifteen only, 1932,0715.46 to 59, including 48*) of the sixteen plates known as ‘Victoires et Conquêtes de l’Empereur de la Chine’ commemorating the Qianlong Emperor’s victories in Central Asia from 1755 to1759.
