Comments:Qu Yuan was a poet-statesman who lived between about 340 and 278 BC. He is best remembered for his impassioned poetic imagination and his suicide by drowning. Over time, the life of Qu Yuan came to signify dedication, personal integrity, intellectual passion and patriotism. Yang Newei began making woodblock prints, apparently without training, in about 1937. He played an active role in promoting woodcuts in his native region of Guangxi, and was a member of the All-China Woodcut Artist Association for Resistance. Many of his works from this period focus on the devastations of the Sino-Japanese War.
