Comments:Dawn Melody conveys the impression of a vast river landscape with a lonely fishing boat in misty morning light surrounded by towering mountains. It successfully imitates traditional Chinese landscape painting (guohua). The lines of the wood grain form the mountains, the gradations of colour and blank areas create a hazy atmosphere, demonstrating the artist’s masterful use of traditional techniques of woodcut printmaking with water-soluable colour.A native of Kunshan in Jiangsu province, Lu Fang graduated from the Printmaking Department of Jiangsu Fine Arts College in 1960 and then joined the faculty. His works have been shown in international exhibitions in China, the United States and Tokyo.
