Comments:In the Street depicts migrant workers from rural areas searching for work in the city. Here they are working as street musicians playing homemade musical instruments. The broad black connected lines add a dense texture to the print. The themes represented in He Weimin’s work are drawn from observations of everyday life. His series ‘City Diary’ includes works produced over a 20-year period, from 1987 to 2007. He Weimin developed a graphic woodblock style derived from seal carving, creating contrasting rectangles of black and white. He studied at Harbin Normal University, the Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts and later at the University of Ulster. He has worked as professional artist and academic in both China and the UK.
