The print here depicts a soldier who returned to his wife and three children after having fought the victorious battle of West Hunan. He holds up a doll in a Japanese costume to his youngest child who, unconscious of its previous owner, longs for the desirable toy. The boy’s attention below is caught by a piece of cloth that bears the red sun, symbol of the Japanese flag.
