Description:
Plate 6 from a set of from a set of sixteen plates; Qing military encampment with tents and yurts; inside, three Qing figures seated under an awning receive a small group of Turkic Muslims accompanied by Qing guards, watched by Qing figures under awnings on either side; in front to left and right, kneeling prisoners make offerings of livestock and other goods; to left, reached by a bridge over a river, the fortifed city Ush-Turfan. 1774 Etching and engraving

Comments:Plate 6 is often titled in modern literature: The Chief of ‘Uš [Turfan] submits with his town; Le Chef d’Uš [Turfan] se soumet avec sa ville. None of the plates in the original edition was ever lettered with a title.This print is from an incomplete BM set (fifteen only, 1932,0715.46 to 59, including 48*) of the sixteen plates known as ‘Victoires et Conquêtes de l’Empereur de la Chine’ commemorating the Qianlong Emperor’s victories in Central Asia from 1755 to1759.
