Comments:Yang Guifei was the famous concubine of the Tang emperor Minghuang, who ruled from AD 713 to 756. The emperor’s passion for Yang Guifei, her beauty and fondness for peony flowers, as well as her tragic death made her the subject of novels, operas, poems and paintings as well as prints. As in ‘Beauty with Child’ (1928,0323,0.18), some colour appears to have been dabbed by hand and applied with stencils giving it the texture of brushstrokes.YPL 29 Oct 2019Previously dated 1644-17531928,0323,0.12-42 dating all changed to ca. 1690-1720 based on advice from Anne Farrer
