Comments:In this right-hand print of a pair of civilian door guards, the official holds an image of a deer on a tray. The deer (lu 鹿) expresses wishes for emoluments (lu 祿) and long life. Above, five red bats enclose a small official cap. The bats (wuhongfu) represent the ‘five great happinesses’: long life, wealth, health, love of virtue and a peaceful death. Civilian officials are usually shown in three-quarter view and are larger than their attendants. See also its pair (1990,0306,0.13)
