Description:
Octagonal plate. Coat of arms of Rodney, “Or three eagles displayed purpure; crest “Out of a ducal coronet an eagle rising purpure”; motto, see inscription. Border with four flowers en grisaille: magnolia, pinks, peony and lily. Made of enamelled porcelain. The Rodney family were settled in Somerset at Rodney Stoke in the thirteenth century. George Brydges Rodney was a Commander in the Navy under Admiral Hawke in 1747. He was created a baronet in 1764 and was raised to the peerage as Baron Rodney of Rodney Stoke in 1782.
