Comments:2016 National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage catalogue entries:’These types of metal ornaments are usually excavated from Goryeoperiod tombs. As they are often discovered in pairs on the chest of the tomb occupant, they are thought to be chest ornaments. They measure 2-3 cm in width and length, and are normally decorated with an openwork scroll design. Most of the ornaments in the British Museum were made by casting in a mold. The ornaments pictured here feature scroll designs with carved dragons. The elaborate carving and gold plating display the aesthetic beauty achieved by Goryeo artisans.”고려시대 고분의 발굴 결과, 주로 시신의 가슴 위치에서 한 쌍으로 발견되므로 의복의 가슴 부분에 다는 장신구인 것으로 추정된다. 주로 용, 연꽃, 인물, 오리, 원앙 등의 주문양과 당초문 등 부속문양으로 구성되어 있다. 2-3cm의 작은 크기이며 조형적으로 뛰어나다. 형태를 주물로 제작하고 음각으로 세부를 표현하거나 압출기법으로 성형하기도 하였다. 영국박물관에 소장된 이러한 장식들은 대부분 주물로 제작한 것이다. 이 장식들은 당초문을 배경으로 용을 조각한 장신구이다. 전체는 주물로 성형하고 용의 세부는 음각선으로 표현하였는데, 세부 형태가 모두 다르다. 도금을 하여 세련된 조각에 화려함을 더했다.’
