Description:
This rectangular porcelain pillow has an openwork design of two overlapping Chinese coins at one end and a quatrefoil opening at the other, both surrounded by four iron-red bats. On the front face a woman is portrayed in Manchu costume lounging on a garden stool. Behind her a screen door is half-open and beside her are the accoutrements of scholarship. On the back a woman is shown dancing with her arms above her head while a man offers her a gold ingot in a garden setting in the same palette. The narrow sides are painted with antiques. The designs are outlined in black enamel and coloured with famille rose enamels..
