Comments:Rawson 1995:The earliest Eastern Zhou dynasty jades perpetuate the shapes and designs of their Western Zhou predecessors from Baoji in Shaanxi, Qucun in Shanxi and Sanmenxia in Henan province. From the seventh century BC, a change of direction, brought about by the fascination for gold, is immediately evident in the decoration of the surfaces of jades. An ornament of rectilinear scrolls with fine intaglio lines developed and became a speciality of Qin state jades. This design can also be found on gold fittings from the area (see BM 1937.0416.213 and 214). See also BM 1937.0416.29 and 105.
